As Maddox predicted, the Detroit Red Wings trampled over the Pittsburgh Penguins with a thrilling, 3-2 victory in front of a disappointed Mellon Arena crowd, to take the Stanley Cup 4 games to 2. Maddox celebrated his perfect run through the Stanley Cup Playoffs by peeing on the floor. The only blemishes on his entire playoff run was the scores of 5 series’ and Pavel Datsyuk as the Conn Smythe for playoff MVP (he did get Henrik Zetterberg right as the game-winning goal-scorer!). Not bad for someone who isn’t even two. And not bad for the Red Wings, who looked dominant in every aspect of the game throughout the series. Wait ’till next year, Pittsburgh (sigh).

After Pittsburgh pulled off one of the biggest upsets in a Stanley Cup Playoff game in history, with their 4-3, 3OT win over Detroit at Joe Louis Arena, many in the Heise household were excited, thinking that Maddox may indeed end up with perfect picks for the whole ’08 playoff run. And even though he needs Detroit to beat Pittsburgh in Game 7 to finalize what’s never been done in modern man-kind, he and the rest of the Heise clan are still rooting for the Pens to pull off what would be one of the biggest upsets in Stanley Cup Playoff history – win the Stanley Cup!!! Go Pens!!

With the Detroit Red Wings extending a 1-0 lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals, one could surmise that Maddox is the best prognosticator out there, as his picks have all been correct thus far. In the Conference Finals, his picks were right on, with 4-1 and 4-2 wins for the Penguins and Red Wings, respectively. Let’s just hope he’s wrong for the finals, and Pittsburgh can pull off one wicked upset.

Well, if there are any doubters left out there, I think Maddox may have silenced them after a perfect 4-0 record after the 2nd round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. His only “blemish” (if you can call it that) was Detroit beating Colorado 4-0, instead of 4-1. Way to go, little buddy!!

And now, with Game 1 of both series in the books, it looks like it might be another perfect round, with Detroit and Pittsburgh both holding 1-0 game leads over Dallas and Philadelphia, respectively. Stay tuned for the final results!

I was talking to Maddox the other day, and we got on the topic of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Being the hockey afficianado that Maddox is, he conveyed to me – in sign language of course – what he thought his picks were going to be, now that we’re into the 2nd round. Note that these picks are exactly how the playoffs are going to go this year; Maddox knows his hockey. He knows hockey better than I do. The picks go as follows:
2nd Round
Montreal Canadiens vs. Philadelphia Flyers
Flyers 4-2
New York Rangers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
Penguins 4-1
Detroit Red Wings vs. Colorado Avalanche
Red Wings 4-1
San Jose Sharks vs. Dallas Stars
Stars 4-2
Conference Finals
Philadelphia Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
Penguins 4-1
Detroit Red Wings vs. Dallas Stars
Red Wings 4-1
STANLEY CUP FINALS
Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Detroit Red Wings
Winner: Detroit Red Wings 4-3
Well, there you have it - Red Wings in seven over the Penguins. Just a little too soon for Sid the Kid and gang, according to Maddox. All of those boring Wings get to sip from the Cup again, much to the chagrain of every NHL executive (who would love nothing more than to see Crosby win the Cup every year). Henrik Zetterberg scores the Stanley-Cup-winning goal in game seven and Pavel Datsyuk wins the Conn Smythe as the playoff MVP. The Wings are just too strong for the upstart Penguins this year, but it’s the last time Pittsburgh will taste defeat in the Stanley Cup playoffs for a long time to come.

Maddox ventured onto the pond – with his skates on – for the first time today. After scorching J.C. for a hat trick, he completed the “Gordie Howe” hat trick by leveling Hawk in a fight. Pictures to come shortly…

Here are the written directions to Niki, Coby and Maddox’s house in Maple Corner:
(From the Burlington area – takes about an hour to get here)
- 1) Take I-89 South to Exit 8 (Montpelier).
- 2) After getting off the highway, take a left onto the green bridge at the 3rd traffic light (Taylor St).
- 3) At stop sign, take a right onto State Street.
- 4) Pass movie theater on left, take next left onto Elm Street.
- 5) Go straight through blinking red light and take next right onto Spring Street.
- 6) Enter rotary and bear left onto Main Street (headed out of town, not back in).
- 7) You will pass Main St. School on your left; continue up hill and around sharp left at the top.
- 8) Stay on this road (DON’T bear right anywhere) for about 8 miles.
- 9) You will eventually come to a 25mph speed zone and a steep downhill.
- 10) At bottom of hill, right where it changes from pavement to dirt, hang a left into our driveway. It’s a log cabin. If you pass the Maple Corner Store on the left, you’ve gone too far.

Don and Bev Heise celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary June 14th, 2007 at the Maple Corner Community Center to a crowd of friends and family over 100 strong. For all that were there, it was a spectacle made up of dry humor and touching elegance; that which will not be seen (thank god) for another ten years most likely.
With the MC duties shared between Don and Bev, the show featured stories involving those in the audience, a slideshow, a cerenation by Don to Bev, a comical skit put on by the Connell family, and many under-dressed has-beens of Heise Family lore. All of this was fittingly wrapped up by Don and Bev walzing solo to the famous Box Set diddy, Valentine, in front of a very sweaty, packed house at the MCCC.
Among the celebrities in attendance were Larry “The Godfather” Myers, Dana “The Missing Link” Jewell, Thomas J. Eid (The Guide), Shaun “Stretch” Morse and several Champney’s, who were promptly removed by security after an attempt to steal the beer keg.
Chad Heise played a strikingly mediocre guitar as Hawk laid down his baritone version of James Blunt’s “Beautiful” to the fair lady Heise. Those in witness noted that bigger bombs hadn’t been seen since the likes of Hiroshima; but nevertheless a good time was enjoyed by all….once beer was served.
After the entertainment portion of the celebration, several members of the Sand Dunes collective were seen swimming naked in Curtis Pond, upon which time it was reported that Sean Murphy was detained and deported back to Canada, while Joe Trono was later released on his own incognitive…err, recognisance. All in all, there were only minor casualties (Chad Heise reportedly suffered from vampant rug-burn and dog-hair inhalation from falling asleep on the floor with Sadie), suffered mostly by those watching John Connell dance.
For those of you who missed the show, we offer the pictures below as testimony to what is now simply known as “The Heise 40th Massacre”. Arrrgh!!! Well, a broken leg turned into a complete debacle and here I am, stuck in the hospital for my 15th day out of the last 18. Nothing like a nasty staph infection to ruin your summer. Basically, to make a long story short, I almost lost my leg b/c of said infection to the area where I had an 8-inch metal plate screwed into my shin. In order to keep my leg, they had to re-operate and take out a good portion of the tissue around the scar. So now I just have a giant suction cup on an open wound, trying to slowly close the wound. Yadda, yadda, yadda – I’ll end up being fine.
The worst part of this whole ordeal has been not being able to see Maddox every night (well, that and the constant swamp-ass from sitting in a hospital bed), and hang w/ my families. But I’m headed home tomorrow, so I guess I can’t complain too much. Wow, what a worthless post. See y’all soon.

Wow!! So much has happened in the last 6 or 7 months, I can’t even begin to explain it all. Suffice it to say, however, that I’ve just been so busy with my new life with Maddox that I haven’t had a moment to add anything to this site (except pictures).
Needless to say, I want to keep this site up-to-date with the latest comings-and-goings – whether it be a post about something new that Maddox is doing, an article with my thoughts about parenting, or just some random thoughts that I want to hold onto in the future.
So, on to Maddox: He’s nearly walking these days, as he climbs up your legs and gets to standing all the time now. Some of the things coming out of his mouth now are actually starting to sound like words. And….HE’S HUGE!!! No, seriously, the boy often gets mistaken for a 2-year-old; he weighs 25 lbs. and is about 30 inches tall. Plus, he has huge hands and feet – a chip off the ‘ol block, I guess.
Many of you don’t know what he looks like these days, as it’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted any new pics. Well, here ya go!!
